15 structures burn in New Mexico wildfire

Approximately 15 structures, including 5 residences, have burned in the Quail Ridge wildfire south of Silver City, New Mexico (map). The fire started on Monday and was pushed in the late afternoon by winds gusting up to 50 mph. The Southwest Coordination Center sent this out over Twitter Monday afternoon:

Quail Ridge (NM-N3S), 500 ac., air attack ordered. Strong W/SW winds gusting 40-50 mph.

And at 9:25 Tuesday morning:

Quail Ridge (NM-N3S), approx. 1700 ac. this morning, structure loss / damaged assessment underway. Winds W/NW 18-21 G29 expected today.

About 100 homes remain under an evacuation order on Tuesday, but some previous evacuation orders have been lifted.

The fire laid down somewhat Monday night, but a weather forecast for the fire’s location for Tuesday calls for 22 mph winds gusting up to 31, with a temperature of 61 and relative humidity in the mid teens.

I really like the narration in this video. It reminds me of one of those old wildland fire films from the 1960s.
