Red flag warnings for April 5, 2012

Is it just me, or are there more Red Flag warnings than usual for this time of the year? And, it is interesting how the warnings are sometimes very cognizant of state borders.

  1. Reading the NWS Fire Weather forecasts, it’s clear to me it’s a two-way process between our local office and the state fire agencies.

I have read comments in marginal situations to the effect of “In consultation with state forestry agencies, we will not be issuing a fire weather watch for today.”

The NWS forecasts are probably the single most effective public notification we have here in CT/RI/MA — as soon as they issue fire weather watches or Red Flags the local media outlets pickup on it.

Heck, even on my own PC my “Weather Bug” application will get the red “ALERT” banner across the top for fire weather & Red Flag conditions because it’s tied to the NWS forecasts.
