Winds bring new challenges for firefighters in Australia

The strong winds arrived as predicted on Wednesday in New South Wales presenting new challenges for firefighters involved in suppressing the early season bushfires. Below are two recent videos produced by the BBC.

  1. I guess its all about money. A type 3 helicopter is less expensive than a VLAT, or is it? Type three helicopter 116 drops (11,600 gallons) with fifty percent of the water hitting the burning fuel at best. Suppression factor “0”. With the majority of fire fighting personnel VOLUNTEERS the cost per acre for suppression must be very low. Type 3 helicopters have their place but this is peeing in the ocean.
