  1. Most of the Aussie firefighters are also Volunteers who have full-time jobs outside the Fire Service, but when the bushfire season hits, they have to drop everything for days on end sometimes to staff their “tankers”. Like the Volunteer service here in the US, the Aussie numbers are driopping, the workforce is aging, and more rural folks are away all day at jobs “in town” leaving the number of responders reduced. No easy solutions, here or DownUnda.
