The Fire Effects crew from North Cascades National Park is seen in this time-lapse video filmed over a two-hour period placing fire monitoring plots just outside fire perimeter of the Paradise Fire in Olympic National Park.
The fire that started May 15 in the Olympic peninsula rain forest has burned 1,781 acres.
I wonder to what degree the intensive human activity in the plot while establishing it affects the results.

We had to be careful……..that was labor intensive in itself
Don’t know what you mean by degree of of intensive human activity affecting results….
But after setting up similar RX 80 plots (45 of 66) in Central MN 1993….I can surely attest that the human activity setting up PRE fire plots was equal to or exceeded flame duration depending on cover and winds…..
Labor setup often exceeded some fire suppression missions
I was wondering if trampling the vegetation while setting up the plots affected the effects of the fire on the vegetation.
I have also had some experience setting up these plots and observing fire burn through them, the trampling you refer to had no appreciable impact on fire behavior within the plot when compared to fire behavior in adjacent fuels where plots were not installed
