The Gallatin and Custer National Forests in Montana and South Dakota are combining their operations. This comes as the Custer NF is completing their centennial year celebration.
The current Forest Supervisor of the Gallatin, Mary Erickson, will remain in Bozeman and will manage both forests. The Supervisor of the Custer, Steve Williams, is retiring, which facilitates the merger. An “acting Supervisor”, Chris Worth, will work out of what has been the Custer’s Supervisor’s office in Billings.
The Bozeman office is about 500 miles from the district office of the Sioux Ranger District of the Custer in Camp Crook, South Dakota. Maybe the folks on that ranger district can borrow a corporate jet from Chrysler or General Motors to attend meetings at the Supervisors’ Office.
