The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning effective from noon Friday to 4 p.m. Sunday for parts of southern California. The strongest winds are expected Friday night through Saturday morning with gusts of 60 to 70 mph possible in the mountains and the Santa Clarita Valley, and gusts of 40 to 60 in the coastal valleys and below passes. Single digit humidities and high temperatures in the 80s are included in the forecast.

The areas affected include Los Angeles County mountains, including Santa Monica Mountains Recreation Area; the Angeles National Forest; coastal areas, including downtown Los Angeles; the Santa Clarita and San Fernando valleys; as well as coastal, valley and mountain areas of Ventura County.

Among other effects, this may mean that southern California firefighters will not get to watch the NFL playoffs this weekend.
