Texas fire destroys 34 homes

A fire northwest of Corpus Christi burned about 34 homes in Texas Thursday afternoon.  The fire that started at 12:42 p.m. also burned dozens of vehicles, boats, and sheds.  A spokesman for the Texas Forest Service said the fire was 60 percent contained and power lines downed by strong winds were the suspected cause.  A helicopter from the Texas Forest Service and several bulldozers are working on the fire.

The spokesman said a volunteer firefighter was taken to a hospital in Alice with burns.
