Record Searchlight’s wildfire articles

A newspaper in Redding California has been publishing a series of articles about wildfires. On May 4 the Record Searchlight wrote about the effectiveness of retardant drops from air tankers.  Today they have three more:

  • “Forest debates rage on after a fire”, about salvage logging and rehabilitation following a fire.
  • “Semantics enter fire recovery debate”, discusses how to label the seriousness of a fire, including the use of the word “catastrophic”.
  • “Recovery from past fires may hold lessons for future”, covers replanting, salvage logging, what replaces the burned vegetation, and its resistance to another fire.

The newspaper also had other articles in past weeks about wildfire:

  • April 19: Wildfire and smoke and the effects on health
  • April 26: Prevention and fuel management

(UPDATE SEPTEMBER 9, 2018: originally we had links to all five of these articles at the Record Searchlight, but now none of them work.)
