Firefighting helicopter catches fire

A Bell 204B helicopter that was dropping water on a fire near Eastervile in central Manitoba Canada caught fire and made an emergency landing Monday afternoon. The pilot and a passenger smelled smoke, observed a fuel pressure warning light, and then the pilot saw smoke coming from the engine compartment.

The pilot dumped the water from the bucket and then flew to the base which was less than a mile away. After landing, the pilot and passenger got out uninjured, but the helicopter erupted in flames and sustained substantial damage.

Wow. That flight of less than a mile must have seemed like hundreds of miles with the helicopter on fire.
