If a U.S. Senate bill makes it all the way through as presently written to receive the President’s signature, the Northern Great Plains Dispatch center will move from the Rapid City airport to the U. S. Forest Service’s Mystic Ranger District office on the south side of Rapid City.
They are being forced to move because the FAA has determined that fire dispatch is not an appropriate use of real estate at the airport. We covered this issue before, back in February and March of 2008, but now it looks like the federal government may pick up the $1.9 million tab for a new facility.
The Rapid City Journal has more details.
