Yellowstone fire update, Sept 28

The Arnica fire on the northwest side of Yellowstone Lake in Yellowstone National Park has now burned 9,300 acres and has again required that the Grand Loop road be closed between West Thumb and the junction at Fishing Bridge near Lake. The park said the road will be closed indefinitely due to fire activity and hazardous snags falling across the road.

The weather today is still conducive to active fire spread, with the forecast showing a SW wind at 13 mph, temperature in the mid 60s, and a minimum humidity around 14%.

Arnica fire, Sept. 27 at 2:16 p.m. The fire burns to the highway.

The fire can sometimes be seen on the Mt. Washburn web cam HERE, but as this is written, Mt. Washburn appears to be smoked in.
