Jonathan and Penny Bourne have paid $1 million to the federal government for causing a fire in 2006 that burned about 7,435 acres of the Inyo National Forest. The Sawmill fire started after the Bournes burned brush in a pit. The fire was not completely extinguished and winds blew embers into nearby vegetation.
