Here is a link to a very interesting video of firefighters attempting to save a structure near Spencer, Oklahoma from a brush fire, while across a pond another brush engine gets stuck. It appears that they were drafting water to fill their tank while the fire comes very close to burning up their engine. Since the engine was out of water, the firefighters resort to hauling water in a bucket to protect their engine.
Here is an excerpt from an article at NEWS9:
The wildfire is burning out of control in Spencer near Wilshire Boulevard and Spencer/Jones Road. Winds are gusting up to about 25 mph, causing embers to travel and spark smaller fires.
Numerous structures have been damaged or destroyed. Firefighters from Spencer, Jones, Del City and Oklahoma City are battling the wildfire.
“That’s what we do best, neighbor helping neighbor,” Governor Mary Fallin of the many fire crews who have responded to the large wildfire.
Emergency crews are on scene and several firefighters have been treated for heat exhaustion.
Midwest City Fire Marshall Jerry Lojka said firefighters are remaining cautious because the fire is moving so quickly, but are still trying to save homes in the area.
A Black Hawk helicopter is in the area to assist with the fire. They can typically hold up to 600 gallons of water.
Guys at the pond sure have the ‘slows’. A shame the engine was scorched due to inattention and action. 2 men and no one watching fire activity next to engine… C’mon guys, especially when news helo is filming!
Looks like this crew had an active afternoon. Hope they all got away ok.
