The Grand Canyon National Park employee who updated the InciWeb report for the Thompson prescribed fire put an interesting spin on the smoke visible from Mather Point, describing it as as adding a “special texture” to the view. The park is conducting two prescribed fires in the North Rim area, the Thompson and Range projects totaling 2,600 acres.

Shame the burn ruined my vacation pictures for my lifetime trip to the south rim.
Texture? Looks like smoke, smells like smoke, call it smoke. Leave it to the NPS to put a spin on it.
At least they didn’t wait until a wind event.
I hope..
I don’t miss the old Tanker Base at Grand Canyon,
BTW…
“Texture” that texture burns my eyes and makes me cough. Would someone take the matches away from the Park Service. Lassen National Park this summer had beautiful “textured” sunrises and sunsets.
