Wow! Albuquerque NWS issued an air quality alert this morning due to smoke from the fires in the Northwest. That’s close to 1000 miles as the crow flies….

THE FOLLOWING MESSAGE IS TRANSMITTED AT THE REQUEST OF THE
CITY OF ALBUQUERQUE AND NEW MEXICO DEPARTMENTS OF HEALTH AND ENVIRONMENT.
WILDFIRE SMOKE ORIGINATING FROM THE NORTHWEST STATES COMBINED WITH INCREASED HUMIDITY AND LOW LEVEL EAST AND NORTHEAST WINDS IN WAKE OF A COLD FRONT HAS RESULTED IN VISIBILITY REDUCTIONS FOR MUCH OF THE AREA. VISIBILITIES BETWEEN 5 AND 8 MILES HAVE BEEN COMMON FROM THE ALBUQUERQUE AND SANTA FE METRO AREAS TO THE NORTH AND
NORTHEAST.
A COLD FRONT THAT MOVED INTO NORTHEAST NEW MEXICO SATURDAY EVENING AND PUSHED THROUGH THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY NEAR DAYBREAK WAS STALLING NEAR THE CONTINENTAL DIVIDE AT EARLY AFTERNOON. THIS FRONT WAS LARGELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE GREATLY DIMINISHED AIR QUALITY. Lone Ranger
