The Miami Fire Department has acquired an armored truck that can be used for incidents involving high winds, high water, and active shooters. Since we are seeing more of these types of emergencies it might be very useful.
The video lays out the details, including the body armor labeled “FIRE”.

Wow! And I thought that this was just a good market to dispose of expensive war equipment!
Remember the good ol’ days when everyone got excited just responding to a single tree lightning fire!!
We had an event a few years back where a man locked himself inside his trailer, set it on fire and then proceeded to shoot at the firemen who arrived to extinguish the fire. SWAT team called in, who first set up a perimeter and then sent in a robotic camera. As the trailer burned down with the man still inside, they discovered he had placed drums of fuel at his front door and was ready to detonate them had anyone entered. An isolated incident, but indicative of what is possible.
Sadly fire fighters come under hostile gunfire on a more frequent basis than ever before. Even paramedics get shot at and threatened. Years ago in Oregon on a line crew, an armed marijuana patch guard approached our crew. He threatened us. He quickly lost courage when he realized he might get one or two, but would face a brutal and slow death from the remaining crew members.
