More information is available about the prescribed fire on the Santa Fe National Forest that on Tuesday, June 16, uh, grew beyond the planned perimeter, but did not escape, according to the Forest. They used two large air tankers to help pick up the 60-75 acre slopover.

A prescribed burn on Rowe/Glorieta Mesa southwest of Ilfeld, N.M. spotted over a fireline briefly on Tuesday afternoon, but fire crews brought it under control. The spot fire burned an extra 60 to 75 acres beyond the 180-acres crews intended to light, according to fire officials.
A drop in humidity and the active fire caused an ember to fly over the fire line and into nearby thick vegetation, but did not go “out of control,” as reported Tuesday evening by some news media, according to fire officials.
The prescribed fire had calmed Wednesday morning. Fire crews continued to monitor the burn and put out spot fires. About 65 fire personnel are working the burn and two air tankers are on standby in Albuquerque in case they were needed.
The fire is burning 14 miles southeast of Pecos, N.M. Smoke will be visible for the next few days from the communities of Rowe, Pecos, Glorieta, Ilfeld, San Juan, San Jose, San Ysidro and along the I-25 corridor.
