Alabama: prescribed fire escapes, burns 3,000+ acres

A prescribed fire being conducted by a private contractor, Cahaba Forestry Services out of Arkansas, escaped and has burned about 3,000 acres in south Mobile County. A spokesman for the Alabama Forestry Commission said the fire, which began on Tuesday, forced some evacuations and was expected to burn an additional 1,000 acres by the end of the day on Wednesday.

Cahaba Forestry Services was hired by the State Lands Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to conduct the prescribed fire.
