Little Clearwater Fires Could Get Big

Posted on Categories Uncategorized

An approaching cold front could push several little fires into big fires near the Montana-Idaho border, and fire bosses say there’s potential for “significant growth” if expected winds kick up the fires near Elk Summit on the Clearwater National Forest. The Missoulian reported that the fires include:

  • The 338-acre Cedar Creek Fire just south of Elk Summit
  • The 147-acre Kidney Fire 3 miles northwest of Elk Summit
  • The 20-acre Rube Fire 8 miles east of Elk Summit

There’s another small fire 10 miles north of Powell Ranger Station, and the Jerry Johnson Fire, a prescribed burn about 10 miles west of Powell, is at about 800 acres.
