Neptune Aviation has dropped their protest of the contract awards for next-generation air tankers. The protest held up the issuing of the contracts that were originally announced by the U.S. Forest Service on May 6. Fire Aviation has more details.

I’m betting that Neptune is not quitting yet: if the other folks can’t meet the contract-required time frames, it’s a whole new ball game, or the protests/lawsuits will fly if the USFS attempts to extend the timelines. Yogi said “it ain’t over until it’s over”, and that may be the story of the “Next-Gen” air tankers too?
