The weather Tuesday night was just another interesting twist to this spring. We bring our fire crew on in Mid March to get the training out of the way and start thawing out the equipment. We try and send 2-3 south for a week or two to help with RX fire but seems south is where all the March snow was. Crew stacked sandbags on the Red River in Moorhead Mar 19. Local DNR had their first grass fire March 23. Setting records for number of starts across most all of MN. In western MN Mar 17 – April 11 we have had 0.07 inches of rain. We got localized 0.33-0.78 inches Tuesday night. Setting records for low 1000hrs for 2 weeks now. Tuesday’s rains where they fell gave green up a shot in the arm. Live fuel moisture in pines is unseasonably low. Lots of aircraft in state (Many helicopters, a P-3, SEAT’s and several CL-215’s) are making for successful IA.
