Fire - Power - Money

A television station in Sacramento, California, ABC10, took an extended look at the deaths caused by wildfires started by Pacific Gas and Electric’s powerlines and how the company has avoided serious legal repercussions after pleading guilty to the manslaughter of 84 people.

The video below is a combination of the first four episodes of their series examining the connection between wildfires, PG&E, and its influence on state politics.

  1. As a retired Fire Captain with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection I take it as a personal insult that you have accused Cal Fire and it’s personnel of allowing a fire to purposely escape. Never in my 40 year career did I ever allow that to happen and I never saw it happen. If a fire is burning too hot and it becomes an iminent life threat to crews, then they pull back for safety reasons and re-group. Never do they simply walk away from any fire for any reason.

  2. Years back when Jerry Brown wanted to justify his fire tax increases on properties we had a massive fire in and around Tuolumne County that had the Feds as well as the state fighting the fires.

That particular fire was allowed by the state to jump fire lines. Within hours fire was out of control and a few days later, Brown flew into a closed 15 minute press conference in the town of Tuolumne to again illustrate the importance of his self imposed fire tax increase.

This state, it’s officials and PG&E, are so corrupt they are beyond control and I’m predicting that just like everything else in this midnight blue state, PG&E will officially be under the control of California. Can’t sue the government or rather, can’t beat the government.

    1. Donna, please. As a wildland firefighter, 40 years, we do not, do not, walk away from any fire. We do not, do not let a fire jump a fire line, unless all personnel fighting a fire lives are at risk. Your comment is a a front to those of us who put our lives on the live fighting fires, whether human or weather caused.
