Wildfires in Argentina

While 580 homes are burning in the Marshall Fire near Boulder Colorado, 6,000 miles to the south firefighters are battling numerous wildfires in Argentina. This is not common.

The video below is from the Associated press.

A helicopter under contract to the government of Argentina crashed Wednesday, Dec. 29 while working on a wildfire in the Patagonia region of the country according to local press reports. The two on board, a pilot and a mechanic, were killed.

  1. About 10 years ago the Boxing Day fire was burning in Northwestern Minnesota between Christmas and New Years. It wasn’t called out until January 14th. Sub zero temps occurred while trying to suppress the peat fire.

  2. True but becoming more prevalent! I remember taking an engine strike team to Bastrop TX on New Years Day a few years back, so we must ask if things have changed since then!

    1. Yep. I was in the TX panhandle in early 2006. Missed going on a rash of fires in Arkansas about the same time due to a dropped phone call.

    2. Not unheard of but probably more frequent. The other change is these places have homes instead of ranches. I remember December wildfires growing up in the Black Hills.
