I like looking at maps and statistics, and it’s especially interesting to see information about the location of the Wildfire Today international visitors. The map and the graphic show the origins of our visitors this year to date.

So far this year we have had visitors from 130 countries, but I can see that we still need to work on getting a visitor or two from Greenland, Turkmenistan, Iran, Mongolia, Mali, Niger, Chad, Sudan, Somalia, and Ethiopia. Some of those countries don’t have much burnable vegetation and would have little interest in wildfires. Or, they may have other things on their mind, such as finding their next meal.

We certainly appreciate our visitors from every country. While it is not feasible for us to routinely cover all wildfire news in every country, we do like hearing from wildfire buffs from around the world and we attempt to cover issues that have wide appeal no matter where they occur.

We also appreciate our international visitors who are able to overcome the language barrier. Most people in the United States only speak one language well (if that) but many world citizens on other continents are multi-lingual. We used to have a widget in the sidebar that would translate the site, but it was slowing down the loading of the page and we removed it. However, if we hear from our visitors that they would like to have that feature restored, let us know and we’ll look into putting it back.
