A new resource to understand fire across northern Australia has been launched for students young and old – and anyone else interested in how wildfire is managed year-round in a hot/dry, hot/wet climate.

An introductory video is narrated by Tiwi Indigenous Ranger, Derek Puruntatameri, and produced by Emma Masters. The video is part of a digital interface to a 3D printed, projection-augmented model installed at the STEM outreach (Radicle) centre at the new Charles Darwin University Darwin City Campus.

Using animations of fire spread across northern Australia over the last few years, the interactive installation aims to be a pathway for increasing the pyro-ecological literacy of students and adults alike. Fire is fascinating, complex and an important part of the health of this region. Indigenous stewardship of fire over millennia has been vital to making the country what it is.
