More than 4100 people are attending Australasia’s largest fire and emergency management conference and exhibition in Perth, Western Australia, this week.
The AFAC25 Conference Powered by Intershutz annual conference is hosted by Australasian Fire and Emergency Service Authorities Council (AFAC) in collaboration with Deutsche Messe. The four-day event includes a main conference program with parallel streams from the Institution of Fire Engineers (Australia), Women and Firefighting Australasia (WAFA), and the Australian Institute for Disaster Resilience (AIDR).

The annual conference rotates around the major capital cities with Perth being one of the smaller venues. However, registrations were only a few hundred behind the large Sydney conference of 2024 and the trade show with 228 exhibitors is 40 percent larger than what it was in Perth six years ago.
The AFAC Industry award winners were announced with the major individual award going to Anni Fordham, of Western Australia’s Department of Emergency Services, whose work was recently featured in Wildfire Today.
The award winners were:

- Knowledge Innovation Award – Australian Fire Danger Rating System Peoject Team, NSW Rural Fire Service
- Safer Communities Award – Public Information Team, Department of Fire and Emergency Services
- Workforce Capability and Wellbeing Award – SES Fit for Role Implementation Group, State and Territory Emergency Services throughout Australia
The Australian Seasonal Bushfire Outlook for Spring 2025 was released at the conference.
