Wildfire burns 300 acres in Miami-Dade County

A wildfire in south Florida burned about 300 acres Sunday in Miami-Dade County near Southwest 162nd Avenue and Southwest 42nd Street. By Monday morning the spead of the fire that had sent plumes of dark smoke late Sunday into Kendall, Sweetwater, Doral and other nearby areas had been stopped.

In January Fire Aviation wrote about the aviation program in Miami-Dade County.

  1. You need to put how much damage the wildfire caused. I am 11 and am doing a report. Please help me out. See I tried every other page on the internet, and found nothing and I was really hoping this page would help me out but it did not. Oh and by the way put the damage in like how much dollars it cost to fix everything back up. Thanks.

    1. Loraly, we’re impressed that after you tried every other page on the Internet you settled on this one. If by “damage”, you mean the dollar value of structures that were destroyed, we are not aware that any were on this fire. Many vegetation fires burn multiple acres without affecting any values, other than to the plants — which in many cases are dependent on regular fires in order to survive or thrive.

  2. The good news is that our rainy season seems to have started. On a human or animal interest note the local Channel 10 TV news has a story of a black kitten rescued by Florida Division of Forestry FFs from this fire. No doubt to be named Smokey.
