Yesterday morning the Long Butte fire 35 miles south of Glenns Ferry, Idaho was 215,000 acres — a pretty good sized fire. As of 7 p.m. yesterday it had grown to 327,852 acres. How many people would you expect to be assigned on a fire that size? 1,000? 2,000? More? There are 374 on the Long Butte fire. Of course what’s burning is light, flashy fuels that do not require a lot of mopup.
