Names of Southern California firefighters

Diana Campbell Ellison, former wife of Ron Campbell, was kind enough to send us this photo of firefighters that was most likely taken in the late 1960s or early 1970s, probably in southern California. Since most of them are not wearing uniforms, the photo was undoubtedly taken at a meeting or training session. Quite a few people in the photo went on to very distinguished careers in wildland fire. 1. It’s good to see a few names and faces that i know, especially my dad’s, not to many photos of him in the early years, just stories and memories.

    1. Hey Wes Jr., thanks for pointing out your dad in this photo. I knew him from the early 70’s when he was an AFMO on the Descanso Dist. I was just a green rookie, always liked to see him show up at our station.

  2. Your welcome Bill, and I’m sorry to hear about Ron, we did a lot fire fighting together in the late 60’s & early 70’s when I was with the Del Rosa & Little T Hot Shots. RIP my friend.

    1. I wonder if this was a meeting for the rollout of the Incident Command System, which was first used on the Pacoima Fire in 1975 on the Angeles National Forest.

      1. Bill, after looking at this again and comparing the landscape in the background to Little Tugunga H.S. crew photos, taken in the same place, it could of been winter/spring of 74 or even 73. We moved back into the facility, after its rebuild, in August of 73. The trees look a couple of feet taller in the 75 crew photo then in this one. I’m sure Jim Stumpf or some of the other guys will know the year for sure.
