Fire truck vs. helicopter accident

Posted on Categories Uncategorized

In southeast Iowa on Monday a fire truck struck a medical helicopter at the scene of a vehicle accident. The helicopter had landed near Mediapolis to pick up a crash victim and the ship’s crew was outside the helicopter which was shut off.

While at the scene, a Mediapolis fire truck received a call about a second accident. Apparently the firefighters got a little excited and as they were leaving one of the emergency lights on the top of the truck struck one of the helicopter’s rotors, putting the ship out of commission.

Another medical helicopter responded and flew the crash victim to a hospital.

It reminds me of a train vs. helicopter accident that happened near Cajon Pass in southern California about 25-30 years ago. While working on a fire a firefighting helicopter landed and was shrewdly parked close to some train tracks. A train came through and hit the helicopter.
