John Berkin, a 40-year old firefighter from Columbus, Minnesota, is in custody charged with setting a 1,500-acre vegetation fire in the north metro area near Minneapolis. The fire started Monday at around 2 p.m. in the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area and firefighters had it under control by 8 p.m. Thirty homes were evacuated for a short time but none were damaged by the fire.
