The External Affairs section at the National Interagency Fire Center has apparently chosen children as their target audience for this “2013 Preseason PIO Podcast” about the upcoming fire season.
It is not clear who should receive the, uh, blame credit, for this innovation, but Ed Delgado, the Fire Weather Program Manager, narrates this two-minute video.
Bad enough if this was kept in house, but for a government agency to post something this poor is disgraceful.
Somebody at NIFC public affairs should have killed this before it got started.
Good points, Bill
But when your delivery to PIO’s is in this form…….don’t know what they’d think about that delivery…
As a pilot, and a former firefighter, I myself, think there is definitely a more professional delivery of “Predictive Services”
Sure, sure, I may have to lighten up…but I would have to say….if my boss saw me doing this…….you would bet he would have to say regarding both time wise and professional delivery
Even some of your vets here reading would say ……NIFC get rid of it
They only drew attention to themselves…….whoever reads this site….now has a little idea of how busy it must be at “Predictive Services” this week
The attitude toward federal agencies and their employees these days is — How much can we cut their budgets. Picture this. Someone tells a Congressman, who happens to think all government is bad and all taxes are too high, about this video. The Congressman spends the one minute and 47 seconds to view it. What is he going to think? Will it be, “The Federal land management agencies do great work with their meager budgets, and deserve more funding and fewer employee furloughs.” Or, “So this is what federal employees do with their time. Play with dolls and cameras then upload videos to YouTube.”
Predictive services are not worth our investment. I agree NWS does more for us and professionally.
I thought the video was creative and insightful…better than just reading the outlook!
I totally agree: it’s way more fun to watch “Lassie and Ranger Whats His Name” with a cold Bud Light than to read “Young Men and Fire” over a glass of Aussie Shiraz. But which one makes us better fire managers?
Don’t quit your day job….oh wait!
Really? That is quality work? Looks like done on the fly…and with no real thought
This is what technology has gotten in the world of YouTube and other “visual products” from the wonders of the NIFC back room
I will stick with NWS and their forecast products………
NIFC: Take this video down. NOW.
I have to go throw up now. Be right back.
I have heard that the nation’s test scores have been falling some but, sheesh!
Kinda reminds me of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups…It’s what happens when fire behavior analysts accidentally collide with video production technology…
