Very small fire hose, called “baby hose” by firefighters, just does not look right being pumped by a large Type 1 engine from the Denver Fire Department during mop up on the Black Forest Fire. Can you find it in the photo?

Black Forest fire, Colorado Springs Police
When we were leaving the Black Forest Fire area after talking with firefighters and taking photos, the Colorado Springs Police at a check point detained us for 15 minutes while they questioned my minder, an assistant Information Officer from the Incident Management Team (in the yellow Nomex shirt and Nomex pants), about why we were there. Both of us were in Nomex and carried full personal protective equipment. The minder had an IMTeam badge with his name and job title.

  1. That is a pretty comical photo of the 3/4″ hose coming out the back of that engine, ha ha! But I sure am glad to see they are being smart with their water use!

  3. I like the two photos of the tree before and after falling. If you only saw the first one, you would think “what hazard”. Seeing the burn scar on the other side shows why it had to come down and why you always size up all sides of a tree before falling.

    1. Right, Jim. At first I was thinking “recreational felling”, until I walked around and saw the burn scar on the other side. And it was right next to a building, or at least the remains of a building.

  4. Don’t I remember something about someone impersonating a firefighter on the Waldo Canyon fire and stealing a bunch of supplies. I guess the PD was just checking.
